Weekend Luggage Bags

The best weekend travel bag with wheels for most short trips is a 15 inch hard shell cabin bag: small enough to fit in the overhead bin or under the seat on budget airlines, large enough for two to three nights of clothes and essentials. The Jetset and Skywander at 45 x 33 x 20cm hit that brief exactly, and both come with four spinner wheels and a TSA lock as standard.

A weekend suitcase typically sits at 15 to 20 inches, which translates to roughly 20 to 40 litres of packing capacity. The 15 inch size suits a two night trip without checking anything in. The 20 inch weekend case with wheels gives you more room for a longer break or anyone who packs with a bit more ambition. Both sizes in the Lugg range clear the cabin allowances for most major UK airlines.

Yes, and that’s the point. Every bag in this range is sized to work as an overnight carry on bag or weekend suitcase with wheels that boards as cabin luggage. The 15 inch fits within easyJet and Ryanair’s free allowances. The 20 inch works for British Airways, Jet2 and TUI overhead allowances. No hold, no wait, no extra bag fee.

Hard shell is the more practical choice for a weekend away bag. It protects what’s inside, holds its shape in the overhead bin and wipes clean after the inevitable spillage in the hotel bathroom. Soft shell gives you more compression if you need to squeeze in an extra outfit, but for a structured weekend suitcase that travels well, hard shell wins most of the time.

Around 15 to 20 litres of packing space and the airline allowance they fit. The 15 inch weekend luggage bag at 45 x 33 x 20cm is the one for budget fares and genuinely light packing. The 20 inch at 55 x 40 x 23cm suits full-service carriers with larger overhead allowances and anyone who wants the extra room without committing to a full medium suitcase. Both work as weekender travel bags.
