Cabin Suitcases & Carry-On Luggage

Lugg’s carry-on range is built around what airlines allow, not an optimistic guess: easyJet’s 56x45x25cm overhead and 45x36x20cm small cabin allowance, Ryanair’s 40x30x20cm underseat bag and the equivalent specs for British Airways, Jet2 and TUI. Shell options are aluminium, polycarbonate or ABS. Every piece of cabin luggage ships with 360° spinner wheels and TSA locks already fitted. Quality cabin luggage that keeps your travel budget flying.

Cabin Luggage Built Around Real Airline Specs

Lugg carry-on suitcases are sized to match actual airline restrictions, not a rough approximation. The overhead cabin bag sits at 55x38x22cm, which lands inside easyJet’s 56x45x25cm limit and within the allowances for British Airways, Jet2 and TUI too. Flying Ryanair? The underseat bag hits their 40x30x20cm requirement exactly, so you skip the bag fee at the gate.

Shells are lightweight polycarbonate, ABS or aluminium - and even a combination of several materials depending on the model. All three handle rough security screening without cracking and none of them weigh enough to bite into your allowance before you’ve packed a thing. If you want the lightest carry-on in the range, our polycarbonate models start from under 2kg and come with removable wheels, useful when every gram counts. TSA-approved combination locks are fitted across the board, so security can inspect the bag without forcing it open.

Every size in the Lugg cabin bag range is tested against live airline specs before it goes into the collection. If the specs shift, we update the range. That’s how it should work!

Overhead Cabin Bag or Underseat Bag - Which Do You Need?

Not sure which cabin bag to go for? The underseat bag is the right pick for short trips or any fare where overhead space costs extra. The full cabin suitcase gives you a week’s worth without checking anything in. Need more room? Pack for the long haul with our full suitcase range.

Cabin Luggage - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard size for cabin luggage?
Depends on the airline and the fare type you’ve booked. easyJet has two separate allowances: a small cabin bag up to 45x36x20cm (free for all passengers) and a larger overhead bag up to 56x45x25cm for Flexi and Plus fares. Ryanair’s free allowance is 40x30x20cm for the underseat bag. Both charge extra for larger overhead access. Always read our cabin luggage size guide before you head out of the house (and don’t forget your passport either).
What materials are best for cabin suitcases?
Polycarbonate is the right call for most travellers. It flexes slightly under pressure rather than splitting, which makes it far better at surviving the overhead bin than it looks. ABS costs less and still does the job, it’s a harder shell so it resists denting rather than absorbing impact. Soft shell nylon works for clothes-only trips but won’t protect anything fragile. Lugg also combines some materials to get the best of both worlds, like our Polycarbonate and Aluminium collection. Sturdy and classy!
What’s the difference between an overhead cabin bag and an underseat bag?
Mainly size and which airline you’re flying. The underseat bag is the smaller option, designed to slide under the seat in front. The overhead cabin bag is the full-size carry-on that goes in the locker above you. Budget airlines typically include the underseat bag free and charge for the overhead. That’s modern flying for you.
What is the weight limit for cabin luggage?
It varies between airlines. easyJet doesn’t publish a strict weight limit on cabin bags, there’s an informal rule about being able to lift it yourself. Ryanair is the same for the free underseat bag but caps the priority overhead bag at 10kg. British Airways allows up to 23kg combined across cabin baggage. Either way, starting with a lightweight cabin suitcase under 2kg means more room for the good stuff - like edible souvenirs.
Can I take both a cabin bag and a personal item on the same flight?
Sometimes. British Airways lets you bring a handbag or laptop bag alongside your main cabin bag, one of the genuine upsides of a full-service ticket. easyJet and Ryanair are stricter: one free bag, underseat only and anything extra costs you at the gate. It’s usually more expensive than booking the extra allowance in advance. Our advice: check your fare type before you get there, not after.
